Keen readers (are there any other sort?) will no doubt recall that a month or so ago Eco Corner discussed the theme for the upcoming Eco Shabbat Service (Saturday 22nd November at the Springhill Housing Co-Op in Stroud), which Eco-Judaism have said should relate to Genesis 2:15 “The LORD God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden, to till it and protect it”. Always literal-minded, Eco Corner would like to share with you a good way to protect your garden, from the scourge of plastic.
According to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), there are 500 million plastic pots in circulation, each one of which can take more than 400 years to break down! They suggest a range of sustainable alternatives - from terracotta to bamboo - but also share a simple hack for making your own eco-friendly plant pot. Cut out 7cm (3”) square boxes from waste cardboard; tape together with paper masking tape; then plant.
